Phobias

Conquering Phobias and Fears

What is a Phobia?

Phobia is the exaggerated and persistent fear of a situation, activity, or thing that causes one to want to avoid it. The three types of phobias are social phobia (fear of public speaking, meeting new people or other social situations), agoraphobia (fear of being outside), and specific phobias (fear of other items or situations). Examples include fear of flying, fear of bridges, spiders, swimming, driving or public speaking.

When to come in?

Everyone has some kind of fears. However, when your phobias start impacting your day to day functioning, eg, dog phobia making you unable to walk in the neighborhood, flying phobia hindering in traveling for business or leisure, social phobia causing you to isolate yourself, it’s time for you to seek help.

How can it help?

We first explore and focus on the root cause of the phobia. If it is a specific or habit related phobia, we treat it using a technique called systematic desensitization. It is a way to gradually expose you to the phobic situation combined with relaxation techniques. Clinical hypnosis is an effective tool for the treatment of phobias.

Our Therapy Process

Your first step is to call us to schedule your initial appointment. We will link you up with the therapist that we believe will be the best fit for you.

Your initial evaluation session provides an opportunity to build rapport with the therapist and provide them with some background about yourselves and the reasons you are seeking counseling. In addition, they will be able to answer your questions regarding services, confidentiality, and what to expect in therapy.

At the end of your first session, if you decide to move forward and work with that therapist, you will be asked to schedule further appointments. At your second appointment, we will create a treatment plan together that is compatible with your personality, needs, resources and your unique cultural background.
